The Path System...
The "PATH" video system reduces staffing needs for parking lot studies, intersection studies and highway flow analysis. The system has also been adapted for O&D studies, grade crossing studies and bicycle studies. It is appropriate for pedestrian studies at malls, transit stations, airports and other high volume areas. The video tapes provide an excellent media for gaining citizen support of projects, for conducting before-and-after studies, for justifying expenditures, and for safety analysis.
ATD originally developed the PATH system for video surveillance of various grade crossing intersections for the Los Angeles Metropolitan Rail System. It was desired to observe all vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, or any other movement within each specific interchange over a 48 hour period. A lightweight portable battery-powered time-lapse video system was required that could be easily transported and quickly mounted to an existing pole at an intersection. The time of day, date and location were superimposed over the video information so that the data could be correlated with other locations that were being recorded simultaneously.
All elements of the video system were painted gray to match existing pole mounted transformers. Each video system consisted of a recording package and a camera enclosure. A wide selection of lenses were available to insure proper coverage of each location. The color camera was mounted in a waterproof enclosure with a special window treated to avoid condensation during wet weather. A quick release housing adapter was used to assist in rapid deployment of the system. Fast action stainless steel bands are used to attach the camera enclosure mount and the recording package to any size pole.
The recording package was housed in a weatherproof aluminum housing with two locking hasps for padlocks. A special chain loop was provided so the user could padlock a security chain to the pole. The entire system was packed and shipped within this case. Six stubby conduit sections are supplied which will provide up to 10 feet of cable protection. A waterproof cap was used on the last section to be installed to keep water from entering the cabinet. A time lapse VCR was provided which will record for a number of pre-selected time periods. The VCR may also be initiated from an external trigger pulse. A heavy duty 12 volt marine battery was mounted within the recording case which allows the system to be operated continuously for a period of 48 to 72 hours. A "high voltage" warning sign is incorporated to keep out inquisitive youngsters.
Video can be recorded in the 2, 8 or 24 hour modes. When two or more fields of view are required, a split screen adapter can be used to integrate several cameras into one recording. The entire system can be used as a stand alone unit at the side of the road when a section of 3" diameter plastic drainage pipe is purchased at a local hardware or plumbing store.
This system can be used in almost any traffic application where short term surveillance is required. Engineers simply deploy the system in the field on any pole, structure, or in a stand- alone configuration. It provides accurate and archival information on the videotape. The data can be reviewed and reduced in a fraction of the actual recording time.
These units are provided on a rental, lease or sales basis. Our staff will assist you in gathering Video Traffic Data anywhere in the world. All systems are air transportable. ATD provides experienced video engineering supervisors to provide installation services in the field or to conduct training of your own personnel.
These units are now employed in city, county & state applications across the USA and around the world. We will refer you to satisfied users upon request.
